Hi Guys,

Landed yesterday through Pearson and went today to Service Canada to get my SIN card and they say they can't accept my COPR because it isn't the original. What I have a is a carbon copy and that I needed to wait for the PR Card.

I called CIC and they said Service Canada has the right to reject the COPR and that they can send a me a letter of confirmation in three to six months.

This is outrageous, first day here and this is what we get. This means I won't be able to work for at least three months. Wife is all in tears.

Anyone has had this issue before?

Waoo this is sad to learn, so what does that mean? I guess your VO sent you the COPR? So why send carbon copy and make you go through all this? Sorry about your predicament.

Give it another try and go again, probably the person there misunderstood. You're right that it's a copy, I have done it myself and they had accepted it.

So Guiders: The copy given is it carbon or original?

Did you use a consultant?

It's not a "carbon copy". It's a 2-part document that gets delivered to the applicant. One part is for the applicant in perpetuity and the other is for CIC to confirm that you have landed and for production of the first PR card. Stupid of Service Canada not to understand this.

Joseacta: I suggest you do the needful as stated below by zardoz. Take it back to service Canada and educate them if need be.
