I just recently received my confirmation of permanent residency(filed in Canada) I was wondering if anyone know if you can work while waiting for your SIN card?

Do I have to get the number before I can work or can I at least secure a job as long as I’ve already applied for a SIN number

You have to apply for one and provide it to them as soon as you get it. I believe employers should accept if you show evidence you applied for it.
Most employers want to see your SIN# since there are no guarantees you'll be able to provide the number within the few days. Service Canada sends them out quickly.
Fair enough. But as this link shows, it IS perfectly legal for an employer to proceed when the employee hasn't yet received the SIN.
(At any rate hope the OP has applied for SIN and knows that he/she can proceed to look for work)
