Hey guys
how to apply for a coop work permit?
Processing time and fees too

Thanks
My coop begins \May 2016

You can apply online through MyCIC. You'll need a co-op letter from your school, which proves that you've been accepted to a co-op program. It doesn't cost anything. Apply as soon as possible, as the processing times have skyrocketed lately - the processing time is currently listed as 145 days.

Hi, I am sorry for this but what is a Co-op work permit?

Lets say my program is 2 years but within that there is 6 momths co-op ---I just have to carry on with my co-op since I will still be within my study permit, is that correct?

Why this concept of co-op work permit?

I think work permit comes after I complete the course, isnt it?
Because if i know correctly,,those 6 months are counted as study as well, just inside the course, right?

Guys please correct me if I am wrong...Thank you.

If you apply and get accepted to a program with co-op when you first start your studies in Canada, CIC should give you both a study permit and a co-op work permit. You need a co-op work permit to work during your co-op work term, just a study permit isn't enough. In some cases, like mine, co-op is an optional part of the program and you apply separately to your school's co-op program while you're already studying. Since I only have a study permit now, I had to apply for my co-op work permit separately.

I'm supposed to start my work term in January, but if CIC can't manage to process my application by then, I'll just have to sit at home and wait for the work permit to be granted before I can actually start working for my co-op employer.

Hi,
Does that mean that if my program is 2 years in length, which has 1.5 years studies + 0.5 years co-op...then I get only 1.5 years worth of study permit??

And for the next 0.5 years , i need to separately apply for a co-op work permit?

Or is it that I get study permit of 2 years but even then I need to apply for a co-op work permit worth 0.5 years?

Another query here : is the 0.5 year co-op counted within the programme itself?

Meaning, is it counted as a study period itself in order to get a PGWP?

Because from what I read, credits given for co-op terms are hardly any, as compared to study terms by the college.

Please help me with this, I am considering a co-op course in Canada and for that I need help asap...
