Hello members

I am wondering if contacting MP could help me with visitor visa approval? I am on a PGWP and would be applying for my wife's visitor visa. She doesn't have too strong ties with back home and thought maybe an MP could be helpful here.

Plenty of ink has been spilled on this forum about the utility of MP letters. The prevailing view seems to be (and common sense suggests), a letter from an MP won't carry much weight unless the MP attests to knowing the spouses personally and can attest to their good character. So, if you have a close friend who is an MP, go for it.

If it works for you, please ask your MP friend to be my friend too. :) I am a Canadian citizen and my wife's TRV application was denied in 2020 and again in 2022.
Wow! What were the reasons for refusal i wonder ?

My own immigration lawyer, recognized in Montreal as one of the best, told me specifically that contacting your MP would NOT change the outcome of a TRV application. He was, however able to aid us in the process of getting my wife PR in 2019 by ensuring that we sent all the necessary paperwork. 345 pages of it, as I recall.

Your spouse should be applying for an SOWP unless they truly want to come for a short visit.

Any MP who has any brains what so ever , should not be issuing any letters for someone they don’t know in regards to a visa . It’s called an attempt at undue influence. It’s unethical. The VO officer probably has been told SPECIFICALLY to disregard these . It reeks of desperation by the person applying, or the sense of “ Look who I know , so it better be approved.” Maybe in some countries people would take it into account . Here, it’s tacky. I remember when I worked at EI. Someone stated their personal friend was the MP. I’m like good for you , ain’t going speed anything up or help you circumvent the rules . The rules ironically passed in Parliament by said MP’s
(There’s enough in the news these days of unethical behaviour by people in Government, this type of behaviour just fuels the flames )

Ok thank you! Do i need to write a letter of invitation for my spouse to support her SOWP application? Most of them i found online are for visit visas. Any samples available for SOWP invitation letter?
