Contacting CIC regarding new baby?

My application for PR was transferred to Buffalo on 6/17, but I have not yet received the AOR. My husband and I had a baby on 6/28, and I need to inform CIC of this change. (Baby is Canadian by descent, so no need to be added to PR app).

How do I contact CIC from outside Canada? I have my husband's client id#, but I don't know if that's the same number for my file in Buffalo. Any guidance would be appreciated.

No, your husband's client ID number is not the same as the file number. The file number will be included with the Acknowledgment of Receipt. Wait until that comes - then fax Buffalo with the information about the baby's birth. As you mentioned, the child does not have to be sponsored because of being born to a Canadian parent, so time is not of the essence. However, if the baby was born outside Canada, you will need to apply for a Citizenship Certificate in order to get the child their Canadian passport, which will be needed in order to enter Canada when your family is ready to move.
