Considering Applying but only borderline eligible

Hi,

I read some information on the High Commission website in Jamaica, about applying for the Skilled/Professional Immigrant. I also took the eligibility assesment and scored 67 points. So you see what I mean by borderline. I wasn't able to score any points for spouse or having a job offer in Canada. What are my chances of being successful and what is the approx. cost in Canadian dollars? Also apart from finding a job in Canada, what else can I do to increase my scores and hopefully chances? Thanks.

what did you give yourself for english language test? You should be able to score 16 for english if you are from jamaica. I assume you will pass the IELTS test easily. You may also take the french test and score at least 2.

By the way 67 is all it takes and you are good to go. Is your occupation on the new list of occupations class they will be processed?
Even if you score 100, your skill must be listed on the new list for them to process your application.

I suppose I got the 16 points for english because I am fluent. What is the IELTS test? Never heard of that before. I don't know any french whatsoever, so how can I take a test and get 2 points. Where will I take the french test?

My occupation is Banquet / Restaurant Manager. I don't know if this is on the new list, but it was on the Consulate website the last time I checked. Thanks for your help so far.

yes you exp is listed.
International Eglish language Test Services. The required test to prove your English language skills. There is another one for French and even a 3 weeks study will get you enough marks to score 2 points. You don't even need it. 67 is good. Apply quick before there is a rule change about 67 points. You have to take the IELTS though.

A word of caution ,fluency in English does not automatically imply getting the required IELTS score. Do some practise tests to get used to their format as even the most natural will fumble. Go through the numerous posts on this site discussing IELTS

Doesn't matter you have 67 or 100, matter is if you qualifies, now you have to prove your points with supporting docs, like IELTS, work experience etc. If you have everything and you pass medical and have PCC, you will be in, doesn't matter if you are on Border line or beyond it.
