Hello there,

I am a Canadian citizen but came from a refugee camp 8 years ago from Africa. I have a girlfriend in the refugee camp and I want her to come here in Canada so that we can marry! Do we qualify to apply for a conjugal Visa since she's in a refugee camp?

To qualify under conjugal, you must have a marriage like relationship and be unable to marry or live together for a year to become common law. What is your barrier to marriage?

I don't feel safe going back to the camp/Africa. People there don't like seeing someone who was there coming back... they can do bad stuff to you...jealousy. I know a few people who almost died trying to go back there.

Unfortunately I don't that will be accepted. There must be a real immigration barrier preventing you from being able to travel there and get married.

When is the last time you were together in person?

It's been a while since we last saw each other in person. Like I said, I don't feel safe travelling back there.

What's a while? How long?

Since I came to Canada 8 years ago I haven't gone back to Africa. So 8 years.

I don't think there's any hope of a conjugal application succeeding if you haven't seen each other in person for 8 years. Sorry. You will need to reconsider traveling there and getting married.

So I am going in January to Africa to marry my fiancé, can I start the process of bringing her here already to speed up the process or it better to wait until l have all the documents needed?

You need to wait until you are actually married to apply.

Alright, thank you! Another thing, I am from Ontario but I am working in BC, I want my wife to land in Ontario when she cames; how should I go about it when applying?

You don't do anything. She just lands in Ontario.
