I gather that proven self employment experience will give you points in your EE application towards FSW, however the website (cic.gc.ca/english/helpcentre/answer.asp?qnum=1132&top=29) explicitly says
We do not count work experience if you were... self-employed

This apparently contradicts self employment counting towards EE points. Can anybody explain why there is the discrepancy?

Thanks.

You get points for 67 FSW points for self-employment for to qualify into the pool.

You get CRS points for self-employment outside of Canada

You don't get points for CRS points for self-employment in Canada

Canada Gazette
http://gazette.gc.ca/rp-pr/p1/2014/2014-12-01-x10/html/extra10-eng.php

Section 15. (7) - Canadian work experience

Section 25. (1) - Foreign work experience

This issue has been discussed ad nauseum. Note that the link you post is specific to work experience within Canada (i.e., applicable mostly to CEC candidates). Doesn't apply to FSWP and self-employment outside Canada. Hope this helps. Best wishes.

I thought it might be but a pretty thorough search on hear didn't clear it up. I'm very grateful for the help from both of you, thank you.

So to clarify, my foreign self employment experience will count at EE, my Canadian self employment will not? Or for FSW it all counts and that link refers specifically to CEC applicants?

I don't know what the poster above me (mf4361) was referring to (I haven't checked out the link and I don't really understand what the poster is trying to say above, to be honest - poster makes two contradictory claims) but OP, here are some links that may be helpful to you -

I'm invested in your question because I looked into this issue a few months ago. I was self-employed for a number of years in the past. I hope the above helps. All the best.
