Hi There,
I'm a consultant with US permanent resident status (green card). My employer is a US consulting company which currently has a project with the end client in Halifax, Canada. The latest encounter with Canadian immigration today is that, since I'm not a US citizen the NAFTA agreement of the work force doesn't apply to me (which give working visa upon entry).
The officer advised me that I need an LMO to accompany the current documents that I have to make it works to obtain working visa.
I did some research of Canadian LMO, it generally mentions about Canadian employer want to hire a foreign worker or a foreign worker want to seek a job in Canada with Canadian employer. I don't understand how this would apply to me.
I'm working for a US vendor (full-time) that provide services (by the signed contract and agreement) to a Canadian client. This Canadian client has no desire to permanently hire me but just want to receive my service as part of the services that they pay to my US employer. Again my US employer doesn't want to hire anybody in Canada permanently just for this project for this one client. I'm hired by US employer and have no desire to become a Canadian permanent resident. I just want to do my job! and I don't understand why I need LMO? any suggestion on what other visa type I should apply for instead of the work permit?
Thanks everyone.
