Hi All this is quite urgent, I'd really appreciate your help...

After a year of waiting my wife's application has finally been approved and she received the letter to appear for an interview to receive the Confirmation of PR at the local CIC office. Here comes the challenge... We had already planned and booked a trip to our honeymoon long time ago and we are leaving 3 days after the interview, there's no way she can apply the PR Travel Document or receive the PR card in time.

1.) Does anybody know or has experience similar to ours that needs a reschedule of the interview?
2.) What number should I call to reschedule? cannot seem to find it on the internet
3.) Her sponsorship application is submitted inside Canada, does that mean she cannot leave Canada after the interview and before the she receives the PR card in 2-3 months?
4.) Can she use her HongKong Passport (with PR status after the interview, but no PR card) to travel out of Canada (flying) and return?
5.) What other options does she have?

we really dont wish to waste/eat our tickets and hotel booked, dont think we can afford going again in the near future.

Thank you so much for your help......

Why did you book the ticket, before you even had confirmation that you were approved for PR??? She can't leave Canada while an inland PR is in process, so I don't understand what your plan was if she actually had to wait another few months to get approval.

Anyways you don't need anything to LEAVE Canada. All she needs is her Hong Kong passport.

However when returning to Canada she will need to get a special travel visa. This is NOT DONE IN CANADA. It's done at the embassy/visa office of the country you'll be visiting (so i guess HK?). You can send all the information to them in advance, and pick up the travel document when you arrive in the country. You can find application forms and instructions here: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/travel.asp

Hi Rob_TO,

Thank you for your reply and useful links to the requirements she has to meet before returning to Canada from the trip (in Czech actually).

We booked the tickets while waiting for approval because she has a valid working visa expires next year. I thought we will have no problems traveling until I just called immigration office and found out that the new PR status will take over the working visa which means after the interview she'll no longer use working visa to travel in and out of Canada

Regarding the PR travel document (link you provided) I have concerns over the CIC strike that's been going on here in Canada and overseas.

Is there any number we can call to reschedule the Confirmation of PR interview?

Sorry not sure the number to call, wasn't there any contact info in the letter?

Regarding travelling with a work visa, it is still a risk since your inland application will be considered to be in progress. The situation when your wife returns back to Canada is at the discretion of the immigration officer at the airport. If they let her in no problem with the work visa than you will have no problem, however if for any reason they don't let her in then the entire application would be terminated and you'd have to start over from scratch. Hopefully she won't have any problem.
