Hi
We are a family of four. Husband wife and two kids. We got PR in June -14.Came,stayed for a month, activated PR and then went back. Again came in Sept 2016 but went back in Nov 16. Again we came Sept 17 and went back in starting March 18 but this time we left our elder son to study in Canada with our relatives here.
Our PR will expire June 19.My son will be able to complete 730 days of stay
We again want to come to Canada in another 15 days to give one more try but ultimately we will be short of 730 days by at least 230 days.
what should we do when our PR card expires ?
Should we continue residing in Canada and apply for renewal after completing 730 days?
What will be our status for the period between expiry of PR cards and when we apply renewal?
Our status at jobs will be affected during that period?
Should our son apply for PR card renewal ? will our status affect his application OR he should apply when we complete our required days of stay

First your sons PR status will be his problem and nothing to do with your status given maintaining residency obligation is an individuals responsibility so if he meets the residency obligation at the time of PR card renewal he will be fine.

Second do not confuse PR card validity with PR status given only PR cards expire Pr status never expires and can only be revoked or renounced. So even if your PR card expires whilst in Canada you are still a PR with legal status, it can only be an issue if you leave Canada again without a PR card and need to apply for a PRTD which if you have failed the RO this will become an issue.

Third given so far you have not it seems met the residency obligation in the first 5 years from landing be prepared to be questioned when you come back. Always a possibility that you could be reported leading to your PR status being revoked subject to appeal, may not come to that but be prepared. Advice with CBSA only answer questions asked do not volunteer any information

Being questioned about residency may or may not happen or you could simply be welcomed back no way to predict . But this time around probably best to stay at least until you can show 730 days plus a couple of months in the 5 years preceding any PR card renewal.

Having or not a valid PR card is not really any impact to any job you might have in Canada as long as you have a SIN. Although some employers and government agencies like to see a valid PR card generally only use is for travel
