Hello Everyone:

I thought I should pose this question for you all, since I understand that there are many members on this forum who have gone through this process and have a great deal of experience with it. We are not considering any professional consultant/agency help to complete the application at this time. So, any help from you would be greatly appreciated.

To give a nutshell of my situation.... I am settled in Canada and my boyfriend is from Sri Lanka. We are both similarly educated and even age wise there is good compatibility, so not an issue. I met him through my parents the last time I visited SL in June of this year, and we met in person for a few times before I came back. Afterwards, we chatted a lot over Skype and many other internet platforms. Briefly after that, he declared his love for me and I accepted. I will be going back to SL in three weeks to register our marriage, which will be followed by a reception inviting a considerable number of guests. Because of the short time to plan a wedding, we are planning to conduct the full wedding ceremony including customs and reception next July.

Although I met him in person for a few times in June, we never took any pictures of us together since we didn't know that we would end up getting married like this at that time. I will be able to take some pictures when I go back next month prior to the marriage plus we can attach pictures from the reception as well. Also, we can attach proof of Skype conversations, etc. Would that be sufficient? This is the first time I'm going back after we started our relationship, and that's for our registration, so I can't prove that I traveled during the relationship. Is that okay?

I'm kind of confused about completing certain questions on the application as well. Given my situation, should I call it an arranged marriage or not, because the marriage was never arranged by anyone at any place as such. We were merely introduced and then it was up to us to maintain contact, and we ultimately decided to get married. My next question is, the registration ceremony we are conducting is more like an engagement, so there would be no honeymoon plans or anything attached to it. All that will be following the real wedding next year. If I mention that a wedding has been arranged and attach proof of receipts, etc, would that be sufficient?

My boyfriend is in the progress of completing his medicals and Police Clearance, so that we can submit the sponsorship application as soon as we register our marriage.

If anyone of you can provide some help on completing our application, that would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!
