So, my girlfriend (Belgian) and I (Canadian) are looking into spousal sponsorship through the commonlaw inland route. I wanted to put up a quick post of our particular situation to hopefully get an idea of our case strength as well as ask a couple questions along the way. So here we go

My girlfriend and I have been together for 6 years now with 5 of the years long distance with my gf in Belgium studying (I was working in Canada at this time). Upon her graduation we both moved to New Zealand to live and work as she couldn't work in canada (already used her holiday visa). We lived together in new zealand for 10.5 months with common bank bills and apartment. From there we took a 6 week vacation in vietnam where we biycled through vietnam most of our accommodations were paid with cash as visa or debit was not an option we have flight stubs and pictures but not much else. From here we flew back to canada (I was in a wedding) we stayed in canada for 3 weeks where we stayed at my parents. From canada we flew to Europe to visit my gf family and friends before we start this inland sponsorship thing, we stayed primarily at her mother's and fathers houses over 2.5 months and we are just about to head back to canada. Once in canada we will likely stay at my parents for 1.5 months before moving back to toronto to restart my old job.

Questions

1. Should we include information in our application from our long distance years like flight tickets back and forth etc?

2. With our vacation in vietnam will this hurt our application as there is little proof of us living together other than flight tickets and cash taken out of our common account from there.

3. During our approximately 3-4 months of living with parents how do we proof we lived there together as commonlaw? Will a signed letter from our parents stating our living situation suffice if so what should this letter look like? Is noterizing necessary?

4.we obviously would like to send out application as soon as possible when we arrive but since at this time we are going to be living at my parents and I will have no job at the time (I will have a job offer letters for a march start date) would it be much better to wait and apply once we live in our own apartment again?

1. Should we include information in our application from our long distance years like flight tickets back and forth etc?

ABSOLUTELY! I believe there is a question that asks about your relationship but the space provided is pretty limited. Create and refer to an appendix which you sign and date. Describe over a couple of pages how and where you met and how your relationship developed. Include chatlog examples and photos where relevant as 'proof' - in particular your trips together or to visit each other.

2. With our vacation in vietnam will this hurt our application as there is little proof of us living together other than flight tickets and cash taken out of our common account from there.

Pretty normal at your age to do this sort of thing. Yes, just try to prove you were together - photos of the two of you in an obvious Vietnam location would be good as would flight stubs etc.

3. During our approximately 3-4 months of living with parents how do we proof we lived there together as commonlaw? Will a signed letter from our parents stating our living situation suffice if so what should this letter look like? Is noterizing necessary?

Again explain this. Letter from your Mum (does not have to be notiarised). Photos of the two of you in the location that is your parents house or better with your parents in it.

4.we obviously would like to send out application as soon as possible when we arrive but since at this time we are going to be living at my parents and I will have no job at the time (I will have a job offer letters for a march start date) would it be much better to wait and apply once we live in our own apartment again?

Shouldn't make much difference. Not uncommon for people of your age to stay with parents and you do have proof of living together in your own rented place earlier.

COMMENTS:

CIC are very strict about at least 12 months continuous which you seem to have covered. They are also very keen on seeing 'financial entanglement' - so joint accounts, insurance policies, utility bills in joint names.

Hi
Me and my canadian citizen boyfriend have been living together for the last 1 year. He wants to sponsor me under Common Law partnership , I am an International student myself and want to apply for OWP as well in Quebec.
these are the proofs that we have :
1. Phone bills
2. No lease agreement but I can provide bank statement showing I have been sending him rent every month. we can get our neighbors sign stating that we have been living together
3. In his employment contract, Im his common law partner
4. Im the benefit-er under his Insurance contract from work
5.Emails and other documents showing we live in the same place

Now my question is what more proofs that we can give in order to make our case stronger. we dont have joint bank accounts or anything but he has no objection in being responsible for me financially . Please advice
Thanks
