Hello folks,
My partner will be filing for me using the coming law sponsorship, what I can't wrap my head around is when were ask to submit bills, bank account ,etch with both our names, when majority of the institutions requires one to be a Pr/citizen.
Anyone having this issues? And what other proof will or did you use to proof living for a year?

It's actually relatively easy to get your name added to a bank account (with a major bank) or utility bill as a join account holder without being a PR or citizen. Many of us here have done that.

That would be in the past Scully, but now we haven't been successful with phone companies or gym etch.
Our utilities are included in the rent.

Phone companies and gyms in particular should have no problem adding you - all they want is customers' money, they don't care what your residency status is.

Most people here have had no difficulty getting those, a few have had to work harder at it because the institutions' default scripts request your SIN (which makes life easier for them, but they're not legally entitled to demand) so you just need to get them to skip over that bit.

Maybe it depends on where you live, but I was never able to add my husband to my bank account. I asked at a couple of other banks about getting a joint account and the answer was always no ... because he wasn't a resident.

My husband is on a visitor visa in Canada and we had no problems at TD, that's so weird you couldn't??

Thankfully, it wasn't detrimental to the process. Would have been handy, though, when he was bringing his pay cheque from the States to do work on the house during visits. He's been approved and will hopefully be a resident by next week at the latest, so once he has the SIN, it should no longer be a problem.
