Hello, I'm in the midst of sponsoring my partner for citizenship. I have been travelling with him for the past 15 months, and am currently in his home country of England for the past three. Since we've been away, I haven't generated and income, and haven't worked in Canada since December 2010. I'm afraid that I may not qualify as a sponsor due to my finances. I have full note nations to go back to Canada no later than August, and don't consider myself to live in any other place since we've been shifting from country to country. Is this the type of situation where I'd have to include a co sponsor?
Thank you for taking to time to read this and hopefully respond!

Kristin

I presume you mean you are sponsoring your partner for permanent residence, since citizenship is either by birth, descent or naturalization following a period of physical residency in Canada.

You are not required to have a minimum income to sponsor a spouse or common-law partner. You will be required to show how you plan to support yourselves and fulfill your responsibilities under the sponsorship agreement. In your case, as the sponsor, they will look to see how you plan to provide shelter, clothing and other basic necessities, so you will want to show any proof of savings, where you plan to live, how you plan to find work for yourselves, and so on, in order to show you are eligible. Your partner should include proof of his ability to become self-supporting.

Spousal/common-law sponsorships do not permit a co-signer.
