Hi all :)

Merry Xmas!

I was wondering if anyone can tell me if i can go to the Canadian High Commissions in London (until 11am) for some general advice?

Many thanks,

Jane.

Hi all :)

After spending hours reading everyone's post - I was wondering if anyone could kindly help me!

I am hoping to apply for the common law sponsorship (I am a British citizen and my partner is Canadian and currently living with me here in the UK).

1: Medical examination
I believe i need to have my medical check and to send Appendix D with my application? Also, there are 2 designated practitioners in London - Knightsbridge or Harley Street?

2: Once the visa is approved, how long will it last before i enter Canada and also after i enter Canada?

Thank you for your help guys! And Merry Christmas!

Yes, you need to have the medical done, at a DMP's office, before you submit the application - submit the proof with the ap. As far as how long the visa will last . . . once your PR ap is approved, you will be issued a Confirmation of Permanent Residence that you bring to a Canadian port of entry for "landing", to activate your PR status. The COPR will have an expiration date - either the date your passport expires, or the one year anniversary of the medical exam. You have to come to Canada and "land" before the expiration of the COPR, and you need to be able to provide Canadian officials with a Canadian address to send your PR card to.

Once you're landed, you can return home to tie up loose ends. In order to maintain your PR status you have to live in Canada for at least 730 days (2 years) of each 5 year period following your landing. You can also maintain your PR status while living outside of Canada IF you are living continuously with your sponsor in the other country.
