Coming up in December my Fiance will have lived in Canada with me for one year. We are ready to apply for common law except the only thing showing that one year would be a Plane ticket and cell phone registered to my address. We now have bank accounts, credit cards, insurance etc together. Would immigration deny the app if its a lot documented at the start of the relationship?

Should we just get married on paper?

Otherwise is there anything else we could apply for instead of common law. I just worry they may question the start of the relationship but it was around the Pandemic and challenging to change alot of things around.

The plane ticket doesn't prove common law. So all you have is the cell phone. You need more than the cell phone. Are you leasing a place or living with someone? Can you get an affidavit from your landlord stating how long you've been living together? Anything else to show the full year?

I could have someone living there sign stating we lived there. I started really capturing everything and documenting since about April. We do have many photos with people from January onwards. Would the accept a signed letter stating we lived at such and such address from such and such date? We really do not want to get married until the pandemic is over and we can safely do so in Brazil etc.

What else could I get document wise to show the start of the relationship?

Getting married will reduce the likelihood of issues with the common law aspect. Given how long files take right now, I would do that rather than risk it.

One year together is the minimum and does not automatically meet the criteria.

Living together close to a year (or more) and getting married will improve the file.

Photos do not prove cohabitation. They are useless for proving common law. All they do is show you are in a relationship.

IMO your evidence for common law is really weak.

Either get married or wait until next April to apply under common law.

We decided to go through with a small marriage. I see many are getting applications returned for missing signatures etc. Anything we need to look out for or that takes time to receive?

Marriage certificate can take a while to arrive after you get married depending which province you are in. You can't send the application without the marriage certificate or it will be returned as incomplete.
