Hello dear all,

My common law and I are putting an application together now. As we are not officially married yet, we need to prove that we are in a relationship and have lived together. On the check list CIC requires a joint bank account or a bill with our names on it. We don't have any of these things.

Any idea what we can do in this situation?

Your help is highly appreciated,

Thanks alot.

Sir

No issues , you need to have an account , its life is not required.
We need to comply by formality

Stay Blessed

Yes - it does need to be older than a week to prove common law. It needs to be at least a year old to prove common law. What CIC is looking for is evidence that you have shared the same address and lived together for at least one full year. Do you have a joint lease or rental agreement that has both of your names on it? Joint proporty ownership? Any joint bills (e.g. utility bills) that go back a year? Have you both received mail to the same address and can you show mail from a year ago for both of you that was sent to the same address? If you are renting your property, can you get an affidavit from your landlord confirming that you have lived there together as a couple for at least one year? This is the type of proof you must provide to prove common law.

The only thing the tax office gives us here is a piece of paper which shows when we have moves to our current place and that we both still in the same place. Is that enough you think?

Best

Is this tax document at least one year old? Or does the tax document show that you have been living at the same address for at least a year?
