Hello! Some quick points about our situation:

  • Situated in SK, Canada;
  • Driving while intoxicated incident back in 2006 while living in the UK;
  • Applying for Common-law sponsored Permanent Residency (She's Canadian, living together over two years);
  • Currently on a temporary work visa attached to the company I work for since Feb 2013;
  • Current visa runs out March, 2016

Can we mail these three applications together to Mississauga? If so, do we need to provide three original copies of the Criminal Record Checks, etc...?

Thanks for your help :)

How were you able to obtain your work permit with that conviction on your record?

It seems to me that if you've been in Canada, legally working since 2013...they shouldn't deny your PR application because of this charge, but...maybe I'm missing something here.

Have you checked to see if you even need criminal rehabilitation? You can submit the forms and check the `For information only' box/section to see what they tell you.

Good luck!

I was wondering the same thing. You would have been asked whether you had ever been convicted of an offence on the work permit application, no?

Either way, since 10 years have not passed, you're not deemed rehabilitated, but you can apply. I would submit the rehab application together with the PR application and explain that you've included both because you have an old DUI that needs to be dealt with in order for your PR application to be successfully processed.

There seems to be some uniquely CIC ways of processing rehab applications. For example, my Korean wife got her rehab application processed by CBSA at a port of entry in less than a week! Who knew that was possible! Submit it with the PR application and see what happens. Worst case scenario, they send it back and tell you to submit it somewhere else. Best of luck.
