Hello,

Due to trauma, my common-law partner withdrew from their college classes in February as an international student. They had completed one semester. In the midst of dealing with everything that had happened, we both neglected to look into how it would affect their student visa. Now, they have enroled to finish their remaining classes, prompting us to revisit their visa. We realize (and correct me if I'm wrong) that they are now not allowed to be here. Or, is this considered an unscheduled break? They never were employed in Canada. They never received any letter or notice informing them that they had to leave.

We were planning on getting married next month and submitted our family-class visa in the coming days. Due to the terms of their student visa being violated, are they out of luck for family-class? Is there ever any understanding for complicated situations such as this?

Thank you for your time.

Was the leave permitted by the college? Otherwise the study permit should have been cancelled.
