So we included a declaration of common-law union in our application. I was unaware of so many things so my partner and I took it to the local registry (I don't remember exactly what happened) very stressful times unfortunately.. But was that the right place to do it, and if not what happens then? We won't get understood as misrepresenting anything, would we?

Since this is not a required document and nowhere in the Inland application guide is it even mentioned, I don't think it will matter. VO will most likely just dismiss it if it's not done properly.
Proof of being common-law comes from proving 12 months continuous cohabitation... not declaring it.

Alright thank you so much. That's weird though because I was pretty convinced it was in the Inland application package.. We were all in a 3rd world of confusion and stress however, so I may most likely be wrong. I hope so, the last thing we need is being accused for misrepresenting stuff!

I just answered almost the same question in another thread so actually did a quick check through the Inland checklist and guide... and didn't see it mentioned once. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/spouse.asp

It is mentioned in the Outland checklist, but it specifies it is only for cases where co-sponsors are involved so doesn't apply to simple spouse cases of family class.

We definitely did include it in the package. So the officer will most likely just dismiss it? I hope so.
