Here is a little bit of info on the situation:

My BF and I are both US citizens and have been together for 7 years. We live in North Dakota, which is a hop, skip, and a jump away from Winnipeg. We have decided to further his love of photography into a career by going to photography school in WPG. We are currently applying for a study permit for him since I will not be joining him. I will be working at home to provide the funds necessary for living up there.

Here are my questions:

1) When it comes to filing out our relationship, should I be listed as a common-law partner? In the eyes of the US and the state of ND, we are just two people living in the same house. If we were citizens of canada, we would fill the common-law partner criteria. Should I fill this information out or should it be left blank?

2) Regarding the family worksheet, it asks for our marital status. Is this in the eyes of the Canadian government, or the eyes of the United States?

3) My partner comes from a large family, he doesn't know the information of his siblings (birthdates, addresses, occupations, etc). He is 35 years old and is independent. How important is this information?

4) Lastly, for the proof of financial support, if I am not listed on his application as common-law, should he have all the funds (tuition + $10K) available for evaluation, or would a letter of financial support/commitment be sufficient for this cause?

I would like to get this information correct the first time since we have a limited time frame to work.

Thank you for your time.
