This is mainly to those who know or who have gone through a similar situation.

I'm applying as common-law while still being married to someone else-divorce proceedings are ongoing.

I'm being asked about whether I was married in the past or not, to which the answer is yes. However, I'm being asked when and how the marriage had ended. I don't have the option of choosing that the marriage is in the process of ending and that there's no date yet.

I don't want to pick a date arbitrarily and say the marriage had ended in divorce so this wouldn't be misrepresentation even though I would definitely explain in the letter of explanation why I made those selections as having divorced on that specific date when I'm still married and there's no divorce date.

Any suggestions for me to get about this differently ?

Thanks ya'll

Anything ongoing is regarded as today. You can choose todays date and have the exact situation explained with an LOE.

You can also chose the date you became legally separated. I mean the date you submitted divorce proceedings in court and explain why you chose this date

Thanks for your input. We wouldn't be considered to have become legally separated when we petitioned for divorce. But your suggestion doesn't sound like a bad one. It's a shame that the system doesn't account for a situation like mine where the applicant is in a common-law relationship but still married to someone else.

I know, but the system is assuming my marriage to have ended, so the question pertains to when it ended, there's nowhere to choose "ongoing". I don't see how else to get about this but to explain in the LOE, after all I didn't have the option to choose the marriage hadn't ended and I had to choose something from the dropdown menu.
