Closed work permit and freelance work out side Canada (Upwork)

Hello everyone,

I'm happy to be part of this great community.

I have a question about my current status in Canada and meanwhile working on Upwork. Currently, I'm on the closed work permit and wanted to work for non-Canadian clients on Upwork. I did research on IRCC website but couldn't find something to clearly answer my question. I just want to make sure, I am allowed to do it legally. I highly appreciate your help and sharing any references.

That is a tough call because the upwork platform is available in Canada so there are ties to Canada. If you had an independent client that you had previously worked for in your home country and that had no clients, offices or customers in Canada it would be fine but due to the upwork platform being available in Canada it’s not clear.
