Hey everyone, just had a quick question (I saw this mentioned in a couple of other threads, but didn't my questions):
I'm currently on a closed work permit, but I kind of need to top this up with a side gig. I can teach french, and was wondering if I'd be allowed to do that (i.e. post ads on Kijiji and give lessons). I don't plan on making anything substantial out of this, just like $200-300 per month extra for groceries.

Thanks for the help

Short answer is no. That will be classified as working illegally. You are only legally permitted to work for the employer listed on your work permit.

ugh.. that's super annoying, but thanks for your help!
The only side gig you can do legally is something that doesn't involve any person or company in Canada.

So let's say for example you were teaching French online to students in Taiwan. That would be fine. But teaching anyone in Canada is entering the Canadian workforce and therefore illegal and a violation of the terms of your work permit.
