Hi,

I wonder if I would have to retake the IELTS test for CEC. ::)
Since my job belongs to the Retail Trade Manager category(Level 0) of NOC, I am so worried about it.
Can I be qualified or safe to apply for CEC?

I am an Ielts test score like below,

Listening 7.5
Reading 6.0
Writing 6.5
Speaking 5.5

Thank you in advance for your sincere answers.

i guess u must retake the test.. u need to be aware of the following:

Using your test results

Once you have taken a language test from a designated testing agency, you can determine if you meet the language requirements for CEC.
•If you have qualifying Canadian work experience at Skill Type 0 or Skill Level A of NOC, your test results must match the CLB/NCLC below (see chart): ◦7 or higher for each of the language abilities, or
◦6 for any one of the language abilities, 7 or higher for any other two of those abilities and 8 or higher for the remaining ability,

•If you have qualifying Canadian work experience at Skill Level B of NOC, your test results must match the CLB/NCLC below(see chart): ◦5 or higher for each of those abilities, or
◦4 for any one of those abilities, 5 or higher for any other two of those abilities and 6 or higher for the remaining ability.

u can as well scrool down on this link: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/guides/5609ETOC.asp#overview

are you sure he has to re-take the test? Perhaps I'm reading the results wrong, but it looks like he is good to apply.
Wouldn't his CLB corresponding result look like this:
Listening 8
Reading 7
Writing 8
Speaking 6
This is within the requirements for the second situation:
"6 for any one of the language abilities, 7 or higher for any other two of those abilities and 8 or higher for the remaining ability"

that 5.5 in speaking disqualified him.. I am not sure they round up in this case, they only round down.. if i were the op, i would retake the test.. remember he must score 8 for the remaining ability.. u might as well view his test results.. ur post is different from his result

so I'm looking at that table, and under Speaking it shows that 5.5 equals CLB 6. Is this correct?

Also regarding scoring an 8. You mean an 8 on CLB scale, right? Because this is how I understand that table: each IELTS point value has a corresponding CLB value. In which case a CLB 8 is actualy a 6.5 or better in Speaking/Reading/Writing OR a 7.5 or better in Listening. And he has got that covered like I showed in my previous post, when I interpreted his IELTS points as CLB values.

As Per Current Requirements you are good to Aplly under CEC Stream, SO assuming that CIC will change their requirement from beginning of next year and make sure your application will be reached CIC before December end this year.

All the best

Listening 7.5 = CLB 8
Reading 6.0 = CLB 7
Writing 6.5 = CLB 8
Speaking 5.5 = CLB 6

◦7 or higher for each of the language abilities, or
6 for any one of the language abilities, 7 or higher for any other two of those abilities and 8 or higher for the remaining ability,

Your score corresponds to CLB 6, 7, 8, 8 - this meets the second criteria(in red), so you are good to apply under the current rules, as long as you apply for CEC before Dec 31, 2012.

New rules are expected in January 2013 i.e. applicants will be required to have a minimum of CLB 7, 7, 7, 7 in all abilities to qualify under skill type 0 or skill level A.
If the chnages take effect, it means the second criteria(in the current rules) will no longer be available and with your score, you will have to retake the test.

isnt this Weird?
One of the government funded mentoring agencies asked me for a Score of 8.0 in all bands of CLB to get their training.
this is so weird, CLB 8 = IELTS (speaking7.5 6.5 6.5 6.5)

that is what CIC didnt even ask for giving PR visa.
If this is what mentoring agencies do, what would Employers ask for a CLB of 9.0 ? weird weird weird.

Well, there is a difference between the absolute minimum score to qualify to come into Canada (for NOC B, you just need CLB 5) v.s. the score you need to qualify for a mentoring agency

Canadians talk the way Aliens do ?
huh?
When I speak and Socialize with Canadians , Its absolutely fine. Its like piece of cake.
why would someone be tormented for a score of 8.0 in CLB?
isnt that something filtering ?
