Hi,

I am seeking clarity on the Employment Details to be input in EE profile.

The term 'Primary NOC' is confusing me as it states - 'Primary NOC is the occupation code that you choose to be primary in your Express Entry profile. Your primary occupation means the job you have experience in (within the last ten years) and want to base your immigration application on, if you are invited to apply. '

1. My question around this is - as it says that it is the code upon which we base our immigration application, I am having diverse 3+years of experience in Computing/IT domain and have switched three jobs in 3+years (having spent more than 1 year in each job). The roles have been similar but not the same so the NOC would equally vary (Correct me, if I am short of understanding here). So, I am not sure which NOC should I mention as my Primary NOC - the one in which I am currently employed (my current job) or the one with which I started my career with (my first job).

2. Also, following up on that, what duration should I then enter for that Primary NOC.
a) If I choose the current employment's NOC, then duration would be from the start of that employment (starting year of my current job) ?
b) If I choose the employment code with which I started my career (my first job's NOC),then duration would be that year ?

3. With regards to adding the past job histories, can the NOC code vary ? How will that affect my application in later stages ?

4. What if I am unable to identify the exact NOC, and make a closest guess for the NOC keeping in mind my job role ? In other words, how can I select the most appropriate NOC for one of my job roles to ensure the correct NOC has been selected ?

I would really appreciate quick response in this regard.

Many Thanks,
Joe

Thanks for your inputs @fsw_hk. That is really helpful.

For #2 - Primary NOC's start date is when I started that job with that NOC or when I completed education to qualify for that job ?
Also, If I have switched jobs and the NOC remains same, so duration would be the start of the first job ?

for #4 - If I have 3 job experiences, do I need to provide reference letters for each of them ? In what scenarios, the reference letter is not required ?

Best to you!
Joe

Thanks @fsw_hk.

Please find my updates in Red.

The starting date of your employment. There is a different field where it asks when you've become qualified for that job, i.e. graduated. - Noted

If you've switched companies just add another entry for the new company and enter the NOC. - Noted

You only need reference letters for your primary NOC. If you've worked the same NOC in 3 different companies then you need 3 reference letters. If they are all different NOC then you don't need them. - Okay, from this I understood that reference letter is to be provided for primary NOC. So, if my PRIMARY NOC is same for 2 companies, and for 3rd the NOC is different, I need not have to provide any reference letter from that 3rd company. Is my understanding right ? I am asking since I read that reference letter is required for each of the jobs (we have done till date) irrespective of the Primary NOC.

Appreciate clarity in this regard.

Best,
Joe

I now realize that my previous advice wasn't correct. You need to provide a reference letter for your primary NOC and all jobs you want to claim points for. You'll get maximum CRS points for 3 years, so if you need more than one job to get to 3 years you'll have to provide more than one reference letter. If your primary NOC is enough for 3 years experience then you don't need to provide any other reference letters.

Okay, that makes sense to me.

1) So, if someone is holding 4+ years of experience, (2years in primary NOC and 2 years in two different NOC), then reference letter is required for all the jobs done during these 4 years, right ?

2) Also, my cousin's having 4 years of experience and his scenario is 2 years as Primary NOC(in 2 different company), then 1 year as different NOC(in a new company), then 1 year as Primary NOC (in a new company). So in total how many reference letters are to be provided ?
