Hi all

My spouse was issued a PGWP on June 2012 and then he went back to school to pursue his masters in September 2013.
His post grad work permit was issued for 3 years. However, since he went back to school, he only used the 1 year.

My question is: Can we claim the 'unused 2 years' of PGWP?

Anyone ever in a similar situation? Please share any information/thoughts.

1. No, PGWP is a one shot deal. He received his 3 year PGWP, didn't use it, IRCC will not issue another to him.

Post Grad work permit Common Law

Hey everyone,

Thank you for being so kind and answer all questions.

So I am from Italy and I am about to graduate from college. I am planning to get the PGWP.
My Common Law partner is Romanian and she currently has a OWP because of my Study Permit.

That being said, does she need to apply for a Temporary Resident Visa and OWP in order to extend or get a new OWP? Her Temporary Visa expires on in July.

2. Do I need to attach in the PGWP application a letter of full time employment in order for her to get the OPW? ( My job is in the NOC B)

Thank you again

Alex

1. She will have to apply for extension as a visitor. Once you get a job on your PGWP, that is in NOC A, B or O, then with a copy of your job description, and one pay cheque, she could apply for an a Spousal Open work permit.
2. Note that unless your Job is NOC A, or O her Spousal Open work permit is limited to 4 years which includes the time she was on a OWP while you studied.

Hi,

If you finished your study and then if you still have 2 years on your PGWP, you can use it. CIC always counts the latest status. You have to update the SIN number again. I talked with CIC regarding this. If you need any more information, feel free to ask. Thanks.

I am still waiting for my PGWP, applied last May 24, now my problem is my husbands OWP is going to expire soon, August 31. Can we still apply for his extension even if I don't have my PGWP yet?

I am already working in a NOC B category.
