I was born in Canada in 1961 to a canadian citizen. Do I still hold a duel citizenship? I am wanting to move back there. What do I need to do to go back there? My husband and I are planning on moveing there in about 2 or 3 years from now. Please help. Don't know what to do or who to talk to.

For starters locate your birth certificate...to get a general idea of direction you could do a one-hour phone consult with an immigration attorney (shouldn't be more than 150-200 bucks CDN I guess) about your direction to take. Just a possibility-- and watch for PMM's reply here-- usually pretty accurate from what I've seen.

If you were born in Canada, you are a Canadian. Unless your parents were diplomats or under the visiting forces act. So apply for a Canadian passport, then sponsor your spouse, start about a year prior to your move. If you have children, they are citizens as well. So you should get them citizenship cards. See: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/citizen/bornout-info.html

My father was in the U.S. Air Force and my mother is from Newfoundland as am I. So how do I know if I still hold a duel citizenship? So If I am a citizen than I sponsor my husband does that mean he can't work until when? So all I well need is a canadian passport? I still have family in Canada does that matter or will I still need to go through all the channels. Sorry about all the questions but this is all new to me.

Does anybody know the answer to my question? I just need some help. Its all so confusing. So if anybody can help me I would appreciate it. Thank You

1. You are a citizen. Dual citizenship is not an issue.
2. If you wish to sponsor your spouse, start at http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/applications/fc.html
3. Obtain citizenship cards for your children.http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/citizen/bornout-info.html

Even though I haven't lived there in over 40 years. Will my husband be able to work when we get there? Its going to be a couple of years so when should we get started with everything. So all I will need is just my passport? Or do I have to apply for residency? I just don't know what to do. Help me please

Hi Karen H

All of the members of this forum just provide feedback based on personal experiences or information get from third parties, non of us are experts on immigration not at all; so please, do not get us wrong, if nobody has responded yet is because no one knows the correct answer for your specific issue.

My suggestion for you is to get in touch with an immigration expertise (immigration lawyer) so you can have the correct answer and what your chances are based on the immigration laws.

You are very welcome to post any other questions on the forum and we will be happy to help in the manner of our possibilities and experiences

Good luck
Eduardo
