Hi i'm a canadian citizen by birth and wish to obtain citizenship for my wife , is it possible to get canadian citizenship for her , if yes how do i go about doing it, and if not apart from applying for a VISA what can i get for pertaining to some sort of canadian status where citizenship is valid?

No - she can't obtain citizenship directly from you. She must first become a permanent resident of Canada. Once she has lived in Canada for three out of four years she will qualify to apply for citizenship. Read the first post here for information on how you can sponsor her for PR:

Its obvious that citizenship will be given after three to four years but because of your nationality she is eligible to stay with you until she gets her own citizenship.

You first need to sponsor your wife for PR.

In order to be eligible to apply for citizenship, your wife must have lived in Canada for at least 1095 days in the previous 4 years before applying. Time before getting PR counts at the rate of 1 day for every 2 so the earliest she could possibly apply is 2 years after getting PR if she stayed in Canada those 2 years plus the 2 years before getting it. Otherwise, she could apply 3 years after getting PR if she stayed in Canada the whole time.

She will have to pass the citizenship exam and attend the oath ceremony. The processing time for citizenship is currently something like 20 months.
