Here's the link. Olympic medal is considered a value added qualification for to-be-Canadians that CIC would like to honor. hmmmm how about a doctor? an engineer? a teacher? are they any lesser? what is more troubling is the comments section, people absolutely are xenophobic, even the immigrants that were naturalized!

Nobody likes immigrants in the comments section. That is until they fall in love with one, get married and want their spouses' application fast tracked.

Why the Olympic medalist wants to immigrate? they usually live in high honours in their countries.

Supply and Demand.
Your question actually answers your question.
High demand, low supply because.....they usually live in high honours in their countries.....

I'm fairly sure that other countries have done this in the past as well.

a) Find a potential Olympic winner.
b) Offer them citizenship bypassing all the normal requirements.
c) Allow them to compete as "<new country>" and get a medal.
d) Gloat about how good "<new country>" athletes are..

Sigh....

Every country does this. Not just for the Olympics. South Korea gave their 2002 World Cup coach a citizenship just because he took them far in that World Cup. They also gave some Canadian expat who lives in South Korea a citizenship so he can play for their hockey team in 2018 games.

Countries LOVE olympic gold. That is why most countries will reward winners with a cash reward.
