Hi All,

I wondered if someone could help with the following query. I am from the UK and am applying for a Skilled Worker Visa to Canada.

My payment form to the CIC is through a credit card form which takes Visa, Mastercard or AMEX, my bank is Natwest and i gave my Visa debit card details which isnt a credit card (i dont have a credit card) but a card that will work abroad without any problems - do you think will be an issue? I spoketo my bank earlier who said it depends on how they process the payment i.e. stating what card type when processing.

If it isn't processed i presume the application will be returned or can i add to the documents by sending a bankers draft instead?

Thanks,
(a very worried) Rich

i think it wont work because its a uk based debit card (visa debit, maestro, solo, or electron). it should be credit card either visa/master card which is accepted worldwide.

you can do one thing. contact canadian high commission in london,uk and tell the problem. they will forward your email to cic canada. then you will receive response from cic. canadian high commission london email is

London-im-enquiry @ international.gc.ca

you cannot send a bank draft to cic now referencing to your application.

better ask qorax who is senior member of this forum. he knows a lot more, good luck

Ok thanks for the info! :)
My Visa although a debit card is wordwide though and will work wherever, the bank have confirmed if the payment is precessed it should go through easily, i had to let them know anyway as it may be odd for a payment to be processed from abroad. I'll speak to you friend and see what he says about it.

Thanks again,
Rich

hi rich!

i hope and pray your card will work. but what i know the platform that accpets cards is different for credit / debit cards. like when we buy things on internet it says either both debit / credit cards accepted or only crdit cards accepted. on cic website it only says credit cards visa/master/amex but it doesnot say debit cards. also for debit cards, card number starts from 465..... and for credit cards card number starts like 5404....also there is a issue with cvv, 3 digits on back of card some people said on this forum before that their card didnot go through bcz there is no place to provide cvv on cic form. i dont know if you provided that one?

why dont you try a prepaid credit card, there are lots in uk like virgin, bread, westernunion, cashplus, bread is the best and i am using myself, all of these credit cards can be used worldwide and anywhere credit cards accepted.

i think if you google these things you will know better.

this is only my idea and i can be wrong what i said above.

to be on safe saide i think you email chc london and inform them of the problem. again i pray your card goes through and wish you very best of luck.

regards
wxyz

Thanks,

I see what you are saying but its a very grey area in that a card payment through a visa, credit or debit can be processed easily through the same machine - i unfortunately haven't been able to find anyone else who has done the same and had their payment go through, no-one seems to have made the same mistake!

We'll see what happens and i have mailed the london office as you said so will wait to hear back fom them.

Fingers crossed but if you do happen to come accross any similar issues please do let me know.

Thanks,
Rich
