Wondering If anyone has recently brought in child through surrogacy from Nigeria to Canada, and could help with answers to the following:

We are planning to have our baby born through gestational surrogacy in Nigeria to Canada. We got our Canadian Citizenship in 2020. Spent almost 10 years in Canada and have resided in Canada all this time.
Will our child qualify for Canadian citizenship by descent?
How do we go about preparing Travel documents to bring the baby to Canada as soon as possible?
Can we apply for a passport or a certificate of proof of Canadian citizenship? Knowing this might take time (Not sure),
Can we apply for a Temporary travel document from Nigeria and come to Canada to do Canadian documentation as applicable?
How long on average did/will it take to process documentation from Nigeria to come to Canada?

Your responses would be greatly appreciated

For international adoptions, you'll have to call your province first. Look up the province's adoption authority and call them. They are going to provide you with the best info.

Remember, you cannot start any part of the international adoption without having your province onboard. Starting any phases of adoption can be illegal as well. Call them, they'll give you very specific info about compliance, adoption eligibility, etc.

The response may also differ depending on how the child is biologically related to their parents. Typically there is the ability to get temporary travel documents to return to Canada before the children are issued Canadian passports although it could still take a few months. Nigeria does seem to be a pretty popular surrogacy location partially because there is now a much larger Nigerian diaspora in Canada. I would suggest looking for recent cases of families having children via surrogacy in Nigeria. They will be able to provide the best advice about potential issues from both the Nigerian and Canadian government and realistic timelines.
