Good day,

I am Canadian. My wife is Vietnamese. Documents need to be signed by both of us as we are living apart awaiting immigration procedures. It would be horrible that we get the file sent back to Vietnam to reunite our signatures on the documents. We completed the files together in Vietnam and signed them. I brought them in Canada to send the documents for her. I am now trying to send the right documents but i am still confused over some checklist elements.

Mariage certificate: Original or certified true copy?

Should I join my Canadian (Quebec) birth certificate as a family member along with her certified translated true copy birth certificate?

When we fill an electronic form...We cannot put not/applicable to points that do not apply...should I write N/A on the sections manually?

Section 7 of IMM 5533 - Do we really have to submit 1 document in three groups? How can someone who does not reside in Canada provide a drivers licence for exemple. Does that section really apply???

Are scanned documents accepted when they talk about copies? (Scanned translated certified true copies of the family booklet and ID card). The original copies are in Vietnam.

Thank you very much. Your help is truly appreciated.

First of, if you live in Quebec you have to submit your application accordingly Quebec immigration rules, find out how here: http://www.immigration-quebec.gouv.qc.ca/en/immigrate-settle/family-reunification/index.html

If you're not living in Quebec then see the answers down by bullet points:
1. If you got married in Vietnam and the certificate is in vietnamese then you need to translate it at the Certified Agency, then make a copy of the marriage certificate and certify at Notary Public; if you got married in Canada - provide just copy of the document;
2. As a Sponsor you have to provide ONE of the 3 following doc-s of your choosing: ID, Birth Cert or Passport. As so they were issued in Canada you do not need to certify their copies;
3. This is strange because I could type in appropriate fields N/A unless you're doing smth wrong and not following the instructions. But yes you can handwrite N/A after you print it, if it's such a struggle;
4. The Checklist require you to provide One (1) document from three (3) of the following sets of options. And it's sort of mandatory as it sets to be a proof of your relationship. In your case you can provide:
- Documentary evidence of financial support between your sponsor and yourself: receipts, wire bank transactions and etc. Even wedding ring you bought for her is a proof of support.
- Other proof that your relationship is recognized by your friends and/or family (e.g. Letters, social media information showing a
public relationship, etc.) - I believe you're talking to each other, right? :)
- Important documents for you or your sponsor showing that you are recognized as each other's spouse - this can be tricky for you but it's possible. Do get a Life Insurance and nominate her as a beneficiary.
That's it, done.
5. Didn't really get your question. You have to provide copies of her family booklet and ID. Since they are issued not in Canada, the copies of those doc-s have to be certified and translated by the certified translation agency (if they are in vietnamese).
