Checking status online (how and when)

Hi there!
We've applied papers within Canada (spouse's sponsorship) this June 2010. UPS site confirmed that Vagreville office received them. When I'm trying to check status online it says that they probably received the papers but didn't start the process so far. I'm wondering when I can check the status online and how I can do it? I mean what number I should use? I used Client's ID which I've found in fee payment. We used my sponsor's drive license as Client's ID. I'm not sure could I use it in future to check the status online. Please help and thanks to everyone!

You won't see anything until it reaches the initial decision stage in 7/8 months. The client id is a no. xxxx-xxxx issued by CIC.

7 months ...Is it possible to reach office by email or phone just to be sure that they receive the papers? What do you think?

why most people are able to check their applications in 2 months after sending the application in? (for applications In Canada)
they are able to see when the IO started processing the application and all that..
I have been following the INLANDERS thread, and I have seen lots of people that 2 months(and almost 3) after the application was sent they were able to check their status on line.
It's been almost 3 months since I sent mine and I still not able to check my status on line.

I think the ones who already had a client ID before the sent the PR app will be able to log in sooner. Others who didn't have on before will have to wait/call CIC to get it. I have had my client ID since I got my initial study permit 5 years ago. I sent my application in May and e-cas said they started processing in July.
