I am going to move to Calgary early next month. I am planning to bring only CA$2000, and leave the US bank open. Most of my money will still stay in my US bank. I can use my US credit cards ( a special card for the card holders frequently travelling internationally) in Canada without the charge for currency exchange. Later on, I will transfer money to the Canadian account.

My question is, when I cross the border by car, will the Canadian officer check how much money I bring with me so that I will not cause economic burden to the Canada government? Can I show my US bank balance to the officer to prove my financial status? Or I have to close US bank account and change all of money to Canadian dollars? Thanks for answer.

Since you have already landed last year, there is no minimum amount to bring as POF. Just that if you are carrying more than $10,000, you must declare.
