My fiance is planning on taking my Last name when we marry. However she is currently in Canada and we plan to apply for inland PR. We were wondering if her changing her last name to mine would have any negative effects by doing so, as she will not have current ID to reflect her name change. We just don't want there to be any issues when it comes to the PR should she actually use my name.

Thanks for any help regarding this issue.

As far as I know she would need to apply for new documents such as her passport with her new name before you could submit your application.

If she assumes your name, she needs to change her ID to reflect this. You can submit your application with her maiden name ID, but when she changes her ID, you should submit the new ID, especially if you want her PR card to reflect her new name. Or, if it doesn't take a long time to make the changes, you can delay her application to match the new ID.

The only ID that would need to be changed is the passport. The PR card will be issued in the name on the passport.

Can you get your PR changed to your new name once you have it?
I am married but i have a current working holiday visa in my maiden name and I don't want to make that invalid by changing my passport now, so I was planning on waiting till I got my PR, then changing my passport, what would I need to do to change my name on my PR, is this possible?
