Hi There

I moved to Canada, Quebec, Montreal on a company transfer in April this year (2013)

I am on a closed work permit obtained via CSQ which is valid only for current employer, in the region of Quebec (Montreal) and valid for 3 years. Case Type 20 whatever that means; basically seems other employers, locations and occupation types are "unauthorized".

My Spouse on the other hand has an Open work permit obtained when I entered with no restrictions on location, job type, etc also from CSQ, she obtained at same time as my above permit tho has no restrictions it seems.

I'm curious is it possible with my work permit to transfer it to another province ? say Ontario ? While I do enjoy being in Quebec my spouse can find no employment after 6 months searching (in legal field) , tho in Ontario she can start a job immediately (her previous employer has a branch in Toronto and would hire no problems)

Is it possible for me to have my closed permit changed a) to another Provence ? b) Same employer tho different province ? c) different province, different employer (not likely but asking anyway) I could arrange a transfer to Toronto office of my employer, but I wonder if the permit will allow it ?

Or with my spouse can she change her province of permit and start work in Ontario easily ? Perhaps I can piggyback on her permit change ?

Curious as have to weight up options of continuing living in Quebec if my partner cant find work here (other than service industry...)

Would gratefully accept any advice

I'll help with a few questions. If you want to change employers, you need a new LMO and a brand new work permit. You can't work for a different employer using your current work permit.

Piggy-backing off your wife's open work permit is also out of the question. The only reason she has it is because of your work permit. If you wanted to piggy-back off her work permit, she would need to find an employer who can obtain an approved LMO and then change to a closed work permit based on the job offer/LMO. Assuming her job was skilled, you could then apply for an open work permit based off your wife's closed work permit (much like she obtained an open work permit based off your closed work permit).

Cool thanks for the info, appreciated. Most likely route is I just change province, but keep same employer, think thats do-able?

and the LMO route I guess would be a complete re-application from a new employer yeah ?
