hi All,

I am getting married soon and wondering if my spouse and I should get our passport updated with spouse name..

is this mandatory to do before applying for PR ? or it is only a convenience thing?

Any guidance is appreciated..

thanks,

I Suggest please go ahead and do it - it won't harm your case but will for sure help to prove the marriage is genuine.

It will also help you later when you have child to get birth certificate and other key documents.

I've been married for almost 6 years, never bothered to get my name changed.
All my legal documents still have my name with my maiden last name.
Too much hassle to change everything. I don't think it should impact our sponsor application though.

Its not mandatory at all.

Right and if you do try to change it, there is a possibility that it could slow down your application. My wife and I decided to wait until she is here in Canada before we start changing her name.

Many women in Canada keep their maiden name after marriage. Completely normal, and won't affect your application at all.

Don't bother wait till you have enough time and that's if you want to . I have not changed my maiden name. In Canada your maiden name will always be legal . It will not affect your application what so ever, in fact in Quebec you do not use your married name, its always your maiden name.
