Changing passport right after landing?

Hi guys,

I'm going to be doing my landing in about 6-7 weeks. My current passport is valid and will be for quite some time after so that's not an issue.

But my passport is fairly well travelled and i only have one visa page left unstamped in it. It is also pretty travel worn and I'd like to get a new one

But I don't want to apply for a new one before I land as then I'd have to not only request a new passport but also a new COPR with my new passport number on it.

Can I apply for a new passport as soon as i've landed? Would I just have to update CIC of my new passport number after I have done this?

You can apply for a passport whenever you want.

No. They don't care what you do after you are already a PR.

Thanks Canuck. Obviously applying for a new passport before I'm a PR is a big no-no then if I don't want to have another CoPR prepared right?

As soon as I've landed, I can then just get a new one. Would I need to update them of my new number?

Yes, Apply after landing or you will need a new COPR.

No. As I said, they don't care once you have landed.

I was in the same situation as you last year. I've landed with my old passport that only was valid for less than 2 months after I've landed and renewed my passport in Canada 2.5 months later after it was expired 3 weeks. I only had to travel from Calgary to Montreal because I had to leave my fingerprints in the Belgian consulate before I could apply for a new passport.
