hey I was academically withdrawn from my program by my college, my study permit will expire in April 2023, I wanna change my DLI for and start studying in may 2023 term, how can I maintain my legal status in Canada till then? Can I apply for visitor visa?
Or Can I stay in Canada on my old study permit and TRV?, I will not be working either off campus or on campus. How can I stay in Canada till my new program starts? What options do i have? I don’t wanna go back home and then return again because of the flight costs? Is my study permit invalid immediately after my DLI withdrew me from my program? What options do I have? I was also supposed to be on an authorized leave this term

Your option is to start attending a new program full-time this term or next term if the fallsemester was a scheduled break for your classmates. Having a scheduled break in the Fall is quite unusual but can be possible. What course are you doing? How much have you completed? Were you always a full-time student? How long was the course?

The other option is to change your status to visitor status.

If you were withdrawn from the school and not attending anymore, then school has obligation to contact IRCC to cancel your student visa. Then you would need to change status to visitor and reapply for a new study permit for May 2023.

Fall semester was not a scheduled break, i took it off by myself, I am doing computer programming from seneca college toronto, I was always a full time student, and the course was 4 semesters long, I did 2 semesters and in 2nd semester i got into academic probation because of bad habits and then in 3rd semester i failed a few courses again because of personal loss back home, and the college withdrew me from my program.

How can i change my status to visitor? and if i am on visitor status can i go back to student status while being inside canada?

You change your status. And then reapply for a study permit. Your permit will be processed outland from home country. When were you withdrawn from Seneca?

so do I have to go back to my home country to apply for a student permit while i am on a visitor status in canada? I was withdrawn by seneca on friday(2 days ago). and after applying for a student permit, can i come back to canada on my visitor status and start studying once my study permit is approved?

If you change your status to visitor, you can stay and apply for a study permit. However, given you were kicked out of school and applying from within Canada, your chances of a positive study permit are low. Your application is processed outland and you have to show all the things that you did to get your original study permit plus convince IRCC that you can complete a program in Canada. If Seneca (a good college) is not an option, you better be changing program and DLI to a better school. If change to visitor is refused, you will be asked to leave Canada.

So last time you were in school would have been April or May 2022. Don’t think it’s possible for you to return to school in 150 days or less so you’d have to apply for a new study permit. The safest thing to do would be to apply for a new study permit and TRV from Canada but I understand that is not an option for most. There are no guarantees you’ll get a new study permit or TRv.
