Hey there, my common-law partner (Canadian citizen) and I applied for a Permanent Resident Visa last December through Sao Paulo.
He was approved as my sponsor a few weeks ago but I haven't heard anything from the VO.
Here's my question: I wasn't expecting to come back to Japan this soon when I filled the forms so I used our address in Canada as my current address. My TRV was valid until April.
But I had to come back to Japan at the end of December in order to meet some family members, now I am working full-time, hoping for the best and preparing myself for the worst.
Should I update my VO with this information? Or would it just complicate my case?

If I decide to e-mail them, should I also submit proof that I'm currently in Japan and working full-time?

Did you apply inland or outland first , then we can answer more of your questions.Have your sponsor had an email back with confirmation of sponsorship. Check junk file just incase if you haven't received anything .

Other than sponsorship approval you normally don't heard back from Cic for a few months

I applied through São Paulo, so that's Outland.
Yes he has received a Sponsorship Approval letter via é-mail.

We got AOR and SA from CPC-M, but I haven't heard anything from my VO, São Paulo. I guess they just don't send AORs.


I was just wondering if it's mandatory for me to update them with my address and employment situation.

I would definitely update them with change of address but you don't need to inform them about your employment . I am not 100% sure so lets wait for a more experience member to join in .At least our comments will get this bumped to the top again .

AS you applied outland, you can be anywhere in the world - in Canada or outside - and it doesn't change anything. You can stay in Japan and work there while the VO processes your file. As you're not visa-exempt to Canada, they will at some point request your passport.

Is your sponsor still living at the Canadian address that you provided? if yes, then it's OK. The VO might send a passport request by letter to your address in Canada. If your sponsor is there, then he can open it for you. If it's the address that you plan on coming back to after Japan, I wouldn't change the address. You could send an email to Sao Paulo, explaining that for family reasons, you had to go back to Japan for a few months, and that you're currently working there, but that you will return to Canada once your PR is approved - like this they can see that your move to Japan is purely temporary.

As you applied as Common Law, it would be best to inform the VO that you are not currently living with your partner - but it shouldn't change anything if you have already lived together for 12 months (which I assume you have, because you have applied as CL). It's OK to live apart from your partner once you've established CL status, but it should be clearly temporary - that's what you need to stress in the email you send to the VO.

If nobody lives at the address in Canada that you indicated, then you should definitely update them and give them your new address. If your sponsor is with you in Japan, make sure that you indicate that, but also you will need to provide proofs that both of you will come back to Canada once the PR is approved.

I was thinking the same way but whilst filling the forms, I realized that my current address didnt seem too relevant to the application so I was kind of confused. Sorry for the late reply, and thank you again.

Yes, my Sponsor/Common-Law Partner is still living at the same address, I'm glad I don't have to change that!
My stay in Japan is really temporary, although I am legally qualified to apply for a Permanent Resident Visa in Japan, I choose not to and my visa here is only valid for another 9 months.
And yes that assumption is accurate, we have lived together as a "married couple" for 13 months!
Unfortunatley, my boyfriend couldn't come to Japan with me due to our financial situation and the fact that he doesn't speak Japanese at all.

So do you think that a simple e-mail would be enough? Or should I just provide some translated evidences too?
