I was wondering if you could give me some help. Actually, I have a study permit. I have arrived in Canada just a couple of weeks ago and as my study permit issued too late, I was told that I should defer my study to the next year. so I have to leave Canada and then come back in the next year.
I have been leaving for 5 years with my partner in my country( Iran), and as you may know in Iran, if you live with someone who is not your legal spouse, you are sentenced to death. Because of that, Partner in Common Law is not approved of my country. so I had to register a study permit as a single person.
Besides that, my partner had to go military service, so he could not take a passport to leave Iran until he finished his military service.
I had a special offer of admission from the University of Toronto, and I did not want to lose that, and I thought after one year I could come back to Iran and marry to him, so he could take an open work permit and come to Canada. but today an immigration lawyer told me as you have submitted your study permit as a single you cannot change that!
I want to know that there is not any way to change the status and bring him to Canada?
I appreciate your patience,
