My work permit is about to expire in June, and I'd like to stay in Canada as a visitor. I am planning to apply online to extend my stay and change my status to a visitor.

I have a few questions.

1. Can I submit my application while I am still working? Or do I have to quit my job first in order to apply?
2. If I submit my application but the result doesn't come out and my work permit is expired, am I allowed to stay in Canada until the final decision is made or do I need to leave the country?

Thanks!

You can submit it while working.

You will be under implied status, so you can work until a decision is made. Once the decision is made you have to leave the country asap if it is a refusal (or stop working if it is granted).

Thank you Jalex23 for such a quick reply!

Also thanks for pointing out that I will need to stop working right away if my visitor status is granted. I'd have missed that..:)
