Change of occupation in the closed wok permit

Hi,

I am working in Canada for last 2 years via ICT work permit(closed work permit) and my job role is Developer. My work permit is going to expire on September, 2019 and I am about to renew it. My query is , is it ok to change the Occupation/ Job role while I apply for the new work permit. It will help me to get a promotion next year and also hike in salary.
