Certified or Notarized translation?

Hello all,

I'm a bit confused as to whether a notarized translation is the same as a certified translation. I need to get my birth certificate translated into English as the main applicant, and I was under the impression that these two processes were different. Can anyone shed light on this?

I did:
I notarized the copy. Then translation including the notary seal.
