hi guys ,,,just wondering if work experience right after graduation counts or it stated when we receive our pgwp .
and is that mandatory to work 1 yr or we just have to complete our 1920 hrs means if we don t calculate our vacation in that experience.

First its 1950 not 1920. Hours

Im pretty sure the requirement is 1 year experience of the profession you studied. However how did youre work permit yet?

But anyways its either a full year of fulltime job 37.5 hrs/week or 1950 hours in one year. Which ever. However it must be in a one year period.
So if you worked say 1950 in 9 months, you still need to wait another 3 months before you apply.

any professional comments here?

It does say on the CIC website somewhere that work on an off campus permit doesn't count so it starts when you got your PGWP. You need 1950 hours and a minimum of 12 months. If you reach 1950 hours in 11 months, you still have to wait but if you don't have 1950 hours after 12 months but after say 14, you can apply then.

I thought the work experience doesnt necessarily needs to be in the same area of your studies.

It doesn't. It just has to be skilled.

Just so there's no chance of misunderstanding -

You need at least 12 months of full-time (or full-time equivalent) employment. If you reach 1950 hours in 11 months, you must still work another month (full time) to qualify. If you complete 1950 hours in 11 months, quit working, and apply after 12 months, you will be rejected.

hi jessi....so may we count 1 month vacation in that 12 months experience or it should be 13 months including vacation ....and one more question,,,no one seems to be sure about the fact that 1 yr experience should be on pgwp or can we consider the work that we did right after graduation on off campus work permit..thanks

As far as I know, if your vacation time was paid then yea it does count.

Off-campus work experience do not counts, all must be during pgwp.

Hi jagga - as long as you are still employed, and you are paid during that vacation, that month still counts as employment. If it is an unpaid leave of absence (or if you are hourly and receive no vacation pay), then it does not count towards employment.

That is true, because the instructions only offer contradictory information on that point. I think an individual VO can interpret it either way. So the only way to be "safe" on this point is to count only the work on the PGWP.

Work experiance before grad dose nt count .. make sure you start counting your work afte grad and make sure you had a valid PGWP during that time ..

The question is about people working post-graduation on their off-campus work permits while waiting for their PGWPs... they are allowed to work full-time during the "transition period" to the PGWP, which can be up to 3 months. Since the work requirement is 1 year and they could be fulfilling 1/4 of the work requirement, it is not insignificant.

In the manual for CEC at http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/resources/manuals/op/op25-eng.pdf on page 18, you will find this:

For the Post-Graduation Stream, the applicant must have obtained 12 months of full-time equivalent Canadian skilled-work experience within the 24 months preceding the date of application [R87.1(2)(a)(i)-(ii)]. This experience must be acquired after they have completed the required program of study and obtained a Canadian educational credential. (Work performed under the Off-Campus Work Permit Program or on a co-op work term does not count).

My opinion is that all work after graduation should count, whether it is on an off-campus permit or not. An off-campus permit is valid for 3 months after graduation to bridge the gap between off-campus and post-grad. However, the manual does specify that work on an off-campus permit does not count. Therefore, it would be wise to try to apply for the PGWP as soon as you can so your work will count for CEC.
