Hi all,

  • Is the 1 year of FT or 2 years of Part time experience counted by the total hours worked?
  • Will it work with multiple part time positions?
I've been working part-time at a daycare for about a year, NOC B (4214), but because it's a before and after school daycare only, we don't get too many hours a week. The schedule is awkward to work with other jobs (two hours in the morning, then a 4-5 hours break, then an afternoon shift). I started working in January 2017 so it's been just over 12 months with that company already and so far, I've accumulated around 600-700 hours only. I have yet to count the exact amount, but I know the total mentioned on the CIC website is 1560 hours (1 year full time or equivalent part time)

In September, I started a second part-time job as a Medical Administrative Assistant NOC B (1243), but the hours that they need me will conflict with the daycare hours of operation as of April 2018, since the Medical office is offering me additional shifts. I haven't counted the hours worked to date for this yet but I will soon.

My question is: If I were to leave the daycare in April and look for another part-time position that complements the Medical Admin Assistant hours and is also a NOC B/A/0, will these hours continue to add up to my total? And if so, will I need to provide a letter of reference for each of the 3 positions when I apply? (Daycare, Medical Admin + whatever job replaces daycare in April)

The main reason I would be doing this change is because the medical office is offering me additional shifts a week, which I want to accept, but since they are not able to offer me FT work hours, I still need a second source of income, and would like for it to count towards my Permanent Residency application as well...... So i will be needing something to replace my current Daycare job that has a better-fitting schedule.

Please advise!
Do let me know if the question did not make sense at any point.

Edit:
For reference, I currently have the Post-Graduation Work Permit, an open work permit which allows me to work with children.

Hi all,

1 year of FT (30 or more hours per week, in one or more jobs) is counted by 52 weeks of employment.

1 year of PT work (fewer than 30 hours per week in one or more jobs) is prorated by adding up the hours, dividing by 30, to get the number of full-time equivalent weeks.

  • Will it work with multiple part time positions?
Yes, although your calculations will likely be complicated. You will need to know the hours worked per week for every week. If you have more than 30 hours, you count it as one full-time week (or you count a maximum of 30 hours). Then you pro-rate the part-time weeks.

Yes, see above...

You will need a letter and supporting document for every job that you are claiming for work experience.
