CEC Application - Join My Wife or Apply Seperately

Hi there,

I am a new comer on this forum and I am very happy to be a part of here.

I have a couple of questions of applying CEC and I am sure I would get some help here. Thank you very much for everyone.

I got married in Canada on March 9th, 2014, I mean, my wife and I got the marriage certificate on that day. Before that day, my wife applied her CEC in January 2014 without a spouse as we were not married at that time. CIC received her application in February and she also got her FILE NUMBER.

For me, after this month, I will fulfill my one year working experience and be eligible for CEC application as well. For now, I am so confused as I am not sure which way I should go. I want to apply CEC separately, I mean, I don't want to join my wife's application. But I don't know if it would work at this situation since she has applied before. Or it works, how can I fill out my application forms, including her info or not. If I include her info, does CIC think that I am a primary applicant and my wife is a dependent? How can I reduce misunderstanding?

On the other hand, if I have to join my wife's application, what should do after? Should I submit any documents to CIC for supplement of my wife's application?

Your wife will be asked later on if her family composition has changed - she has to declare her marriage and as you will require Pr too, you will need to be added.
No point in applying yourself. If the relationship breaks down for whatever reason, you are independent of each other as far as pr goes.
Plus why waste money doing English exam if you don't have to

Yes, she has to update her martial status anyways.

Actually, I have done my IELTS exam and passed it for CEC. She wants me to apply separately, so what can I do if I apply independently? Can I write a note included in the application pack, and state that I am married and I also add my wife's info, including her Application FILE NUMBER, but I am an independent applicant.

I like what you said, NO POINT IN APPLYING YOURSELF. But I also have a couple questions. What documents should my wife and I submit to CIC if I join her application? BTW, can I extend my WORK PERMIT when I submit all necessary document?
