Hi everyone,

I’ve searched online but haven’t found much information about my specific case. I hope someone here can help.

I’m currently preparing my PR application. I have a common-law partner who is already a PR in Canada. I listed him as “non-accompanying” and completed all his personal information during the Questionnaire stage.

Now, in the document checklist, IRCC is requesting the following documents for him:

  1. His passport: no problem, I can submit this along his PR card.
  2. A police certificate from his country of origin: this is where I’m unsure. Since he is already a PR, do we still need to provide this? Getting the police certificate from his home country could take over 2 months.
  3. Proof of family relationships: I’m not claiming any points from his family, and none of his family members are Canadian, so I plan to submit a letter of explanation.
I’m mostly confused about requirement #2 (the police certificate). Has anyone gone through a similar situation? I would really appreciate your advice.
